Stand Up for Science Reacts to Midterm Election Results, Turns Its Focus Towards Accountability
Stand Up for Science is turning its focus on ensuring that this incoming Congress will hold accountable those who have caused the scientific ecosystem so much turmoil—and SUFS is ready.”
WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In response to yesterday’s midterm elections, in which voters overwhelmingly chose pro-democracy, pro-science, pro-public health candidates, Stand Up for Science Founder and CEO Dr. Colette Delawalla released the following statement:— Dr. Colette Delawalla, Founder and CEO of Stand Up for Science
“Saving science was on the ballot yesterday, and it’s clear the majority of voters are with us in valuing science as a public good. Stand Up for Science endorsed 20 candidates for U.S. House seats, and while not all the results are in yet, we’re seeing the majority of those candidates—which include doctors, veterans, educators, and scientists—winning their races.
We’re celebrating today, but voting is only the first step. Now, Stand Up for Science is turning its focus on ensuring that this incoming Congress will hold accountable those who have caused the scientific ecosystem so much turmoil—and SUFS is ready.”
Stand Up for Science is hosting a virtual Election Debrief this Thursday evening, November 5, which is open to the public to attend. In addition to reflections on the election season, the event will focus on Stand Up for Science’s plans for the next stage of their work, including a special preview of the forthcoming chapter of the Forging the Future of Science and Democracy report, which outlines an accountability strategy for the oversight and consequences necessary to constrain any future efforts to disrupt the scientific ecosystem.
Delawalla is available for comment and media appearances.
